Ex-Negros town mayor found dead

-

BACOLOD CITY – A former mayor of Moises Padilla town in southern Negros Occidental was found dead with a gunshot wound in his home here late Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Superintendent Ronilo Quebrar, city police chief, said policemen found former mayor Jose Garcia Jr. 59, slumped on a table in the master’s bedroom with a gunshot wound in the mouth, with the bullet exiting through the back of his head and hitting the ceiling.

Investigation showed the death was an alleged suicide as no signs of foul play were found, but Quebrar said they had wait for the official medico-legal findings on the cause of Garcia’s death.

Garcia served as Moises Padilla mayor for three terms, succeeding his father, Garcia Sr., in 1998. He served as vice mayor during his father’s stint.

Garcia’s daughter Ella tried to succeed him last year, but lost the mayorship to Frank Nazareno.   Antonieta Lopez
