2 suspects in coed’s rape arrested in Laguna

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Two of the four principal suspects in the gang-rape of a 17-year-old high school student two years ago in Calamba City, were arrested by police authorities, report said.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Laxa, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 4A chief, said the suspects – Marvin Doctora and Rommel Vivar – were nabbed by his men led by Senior Inspector Christopher Guste, special operations group head, at their house in Sitio Putol, Barangay Canlubang, at around 4 p.m., Friday. Laxa said Doctora and Vivar were among the four suspects who allegedly raped the victim ‘Camile’ (not her real name) in a vacant lot in Barangay Canlubang, on Oct. 9, 2006.

The two other suspects Romy Asuncion and Glen Molina were able to escape during the operation and they are now the subject of manhunt operation.

Laxa said the rape victim’s mother, accompanied by reporters, went straight to the office of Superintendent Flaviano Baltazar and asked for police assistance. She was presented a copy of the warrant of arrest issued by Judge Alberto Serrano, of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 92, Calamba City, dated April 28, 2008.

The victim’s mother hinted that the case of her daughter might be ‘whitewashed’ due to the reported strong connection of the relatives and family of the suspects.
