CABANATUAN CITY – The Philippine National Police in Nueva Ecija, in an effort to achieve total transparency in line with the goals and objectives of the Mamang Pulis program of PNP chief, Director General Avelino Razon Jr., has unveiled its media action center in this city, the first of its kind since the provincial police command set up camp here a few decades ago.
Housed inside the headquarters of the Nueva Ecija Provincial Police Office along Burgos Avenue, the airconditioned MAC is equipped with two desktop computers which Manila-based reporters and local newsmen may use freely and with unlimited Internet access.
Prior to the setting up of the MAC, the NEPPO has no existing press center, in spite of the existence of the Nueva Ecija PNP Press Corps.
The press center was a brainchild of Senior Superintendent Napoleon Taas, provincial police director, who led the unveiling of the MAC with top police officials and officers and members of the Nueva Ecija Press Club, Inc. and the NEPNPPC.
Describing the center as one of his priorities on his first 100 days in office, Taas, who assumed the provincial directorship in January, said the project is proof that the NEPPO is not hiding anything about the true state of the province, but is in fact opening the doors of Mamang Pulis to the media and the public.
“With the media as our partners, the NEPPO will have an easier time informing the public of the latest provincial news, crime prevention tips and other anti-crime campaigns which are now underway,” he said.
He said beat reporters can also hook up their laptops to get free Internet access.
The West Point-educated Taas said another main goal of the press center is to help project Nueva Ecija as an investments haven and tourism mecca, not as a war zone.
