2 ‘hulidap’ lawmen, 2 others slain in shootout

-

Two policemen and two civilians, tagged in the rash of “hulidap” cases in Rizal, were killed while a responding policeman was wounded in an alleged shootout in Binangonan town Wednesday.

Those killed were identified as PO1 Richard Gilia, assigned at the Rizal provincial police headquarters, PO1 Dennis Montemayor of the Taytay police, Alfredo Capistrano, and a certain Tisoy.

Chief Superintendent Ricardo Padilla, Calabarzon police director, said SPO2 Renato Membrere sustained a gunshot wound in the right leg and was rushed to the Angono Medical Center.

Padilla directed the Rizal provincial police to verify reports that the slain suspects were behind the rash of “hulidap” cases in the province.

The group would allegedly arrest suspected drug pushers and users, but instead of filing charges against them, would extort money from them in exchange for their release.

Padilla said police responded to reports that the suspects were seen along Serero street in Barangay Tatala, Binangonan town at around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday.

The responding policemen caught up with the suspects who were riding tandem in two motorcycles.

In an interview at his hospital bed, Membrere said the suspects opened fire at them, resulting in the shootout.

Capistrano and Tisoy were killed on the spot, while Gilia and Montemayor died while being treated at the Binangonan Municipal Hospital.

Responding scene-of-the-crime operatives recovered two caliber .38 revolvers and a 9-mm automatic pistol from the suspects. – Non Alquitran, Ed Amoroso
