BALANGA CITY – A five-year-old girl drowned in a swimming pool at the Raven Resort in Barangay Gumpay in Abucay, Bataan last Maundy Thursday night.

Senior Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan, Bataan police director, identified the victim as Jenzel Mae Del Pilar, of Simple Living Subdivision in Barangay Camacho, this city.

Police investigators said the victim’s mother, Rommela del Pilar left her daughter with relatives and friends at about 10 p.m. in a swimming pool at the Raven Resort and when she went to their rented cottage, few meters away from the pool.

A few minutes later, the mother heard one of her relatives shouting for help when the young girl went missing.

A resort lifeguard and bystanders jumped into the pool and recovered the victim.

A relative tried to save the victim and gave her a cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before the victim was rushed to the Bataan General Hospital in Balanga City, which was six kilometers away from the resort.

The victim, however, died on the way to the hospital.
