Cop’s wife tagged in failed slay try on husband

-

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – The 50-year-old wife of a police officer here is now in hot water after she was accused of masterminding the failed slay plot against her husband in Biñan town last Nov. 8.

Senior Superintendent Christopher Laxa, Region 4-A chief of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), said Myra Mirasol Jasani, wife of Superintendent Adjare Agga Jasani, faces frustrated parricide charges before the provincial prosecutor’s office.

Laxa said the case was filed against Jasani last Feb. 28, while her alleged accomplices, Alfredo Tindoc, Buboy Javier Navarro, suspect-turned-state witness Emmanuel Melegrito and other John Does face robbery charges.

Last Dec. 21, Melegrito surrendered to authorities and revealed the slay plot against Superintendent Jasani, 55, who is assigned to the Salaam police in Region 4-A.

Melegrito, assisted by his lawyer, Joaquin de los Santos, confessed that he acted as a lookout during the crime and revealed that Mrs. Jasani had contacted Buboy Javier Navarro, alias Master Bert, to hatch the slay plot.

He said the group first met at Tindoc’s home in North Fairview, Quezon City last Nov. 2, followed by another meeting four days later which he, Navarro and Tindoc attended.

Melegrito recalled that at around 10:45 p.m. of Nov. 8 Superintendent Jasani arrived home, not noticing that Tindoc and Navarro, armed with a caliber .38 revolver and caliber 9-mm pistol, respectively, had positioned themselves at the gate of the garage.

Melegrito said he stood just outside the gate and acted as lookout. He said Navarro promised to pay him P10,000 but only gave him P2,000 as initial payment.

He said Superintendent Jasani was surprised to see Tindoc and Navarro upon entering the gate and could only utter, “May tao,” before the two hit him with a piece of wood on the head and then shot him.

Probers initially suspected that robbery was the motive as the police officer’s shoulder bag containing P48,000, his caliber 9-mm service pistol, two cell phones and other personal belongings were carted away.

However, as the case prospered, probers discovered that Mrs. Jasani, as Melegrito had alleged, hired assassins to kill her husband to get all the benefits legally due a slain policeman’s widow.

Mrs. Jasani, however, denied the allegations in a phone interview. She also denied knowing Navarro, Tindoc and Melegrito.

“I don’t know any of those persons and I know that the people behind this are the relatives of my husband,” she told The STAR, adding that she has not been in good terms with any member of her husband’s family.

Mrs. Jasani accused her husband’s siblings of doing everything to take control of their brother’s income.

“He is the one who supports his family, that is why they are interested in his money,” she said.

Superintendent Jasani is still recuperating in a local hospital for head injuries he sustained in the attack.

“They were forcing my husband to sign a document that says he owes them (his siblings) P50,000 even if he could not comprehend what was written (on it) because of his condition,” Mrs. Jasani said.

Asked about the frustrated parricide case filed against her, Mrs. Jasani said, “Let them file their case and I will answer them. I will also file a case for libel against Melegrito.”      – With Ed Amoroso
