2 killed, 2 hurt in road mishap
CABARROGUIS, Quirino – A policeman assigned here and a civilian companion died while two other cops were wounded when the vehicle they were riding in collided with a truck in Isabela yesterday.
Police identified the casualties as PO1 Almar Mandac and his civilian companion, Jess Pascual, 25, both married. Those wounded were PO1 Manuel Ignacio and PO1 James Pascual, also of the Quirino police office.
Reports said that the police officers and their civilian companion were on their way to the police regional office in Tuguegarao City, Cagayan when their Toyota Corolla car encountered mechanical trouble while traversing the national highway in Barangay Victoria, Alicia, Isabela, causing it to collide with a six-wheeler truck around 9 a.m. yesterday.
Mandac and Pascual reportedly died instantly due to serious head injuries while their companion suffered fractures on the different parts of the body.
The three policemen were to follow up their promotion papers while their lone civilian companion was to submit his application for police employment when the tragedy took place.
Senior Inspector Willy Garcia of the Alicia, Isabela police office said that the truck’s driver, Armando Oñate, already surrendered to authorities.
