National Bible Week slated

- Edu Punay -

Various Christian churches are expected to work hand in hand in spreading the Gospel as the country celebrates National Bible Week from Jan. 21 to 27.

Leaders from both the Catholic Church and Evangelical churches as well as from the government have vowed to promote awareness and readership of the Bible during the weeklong event that will end on National Bible Sunday, Jan. 27.

Spearheaded by the Philippine Bible Society (PBS), this year’s event will work on the theme “God’s Word: Source of Justice, Reconciliation and Peace.”

Organizers said this year’s celebration will be a call to turn to the Bible for examples and guidelines as we seek changes in our personal and national lives. Change is possible only through God’s word. It is the only tool powerful enough to have a transforming impact on personal and national life. And, when heeded and obeyed, the Bible’s message can change people and nations for the better.

PBS general secretary Nora Lucero affirms the society’s burden to help change the country. “We believe that the Bible is a potent catalyst for change—in ourselves, our families, our communities, our nation. For this reason, we partner with kindred spirits in promoting the integration of these values into the Filipino standard and way of life.”
