NPA plan to put up Cavite front foiled

- Jaime Laude -

The New People’s Army (NPA) has failed in its attempt to put up a guerrilla front in Cavite, after combined government security forces drove away its regular fighters from the province recently.

The NPA leadership, according to sources in the intelligence community, recently tried to establish an armed base in the southern part of Cavite even after the government had declared a suspension of military operations during the holidays.

“It was good that our security forces in Batangas and Cavite did not let their guard down,” one of the intelligence sources said.

Last week, combined Air Force and police combat troops launched an offensive in southern areas of Cavite after heavily armed NPA regulars from Mindoro and Batangas were sighted there.

Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas, Cavite police director, confirmed reports about the NPA’s plan to put up a guerrilla front, which, however, was promptly thwarted.
