Another bomb attack targets poll exec in Sulu

- Roel Pareño -

ZAMBOANGA CITY – An improvised bomb exploded in front of the house of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) director of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Indanan, Sulu past midnight yesterday, police said.

The attack on the residence of lawyer Vidzfar Julie along Kilometer 2 came five days after another bomb went off in front of his office in Patikul town, said Presidential Assistant for Sulu Amilbahar Amilasan.

Julie was in Manila when the bomb made of ammonium nitrate and placed inside a garbage bin in front of his house exploded at about 12:05 a.m. yesterday.

The blast damaged the front gate and the facade of a neighboring government office.

“I believe I was the target of the two bomb attacks. Perhaps, the suspects want to terrorize me,” Julie said.

Julie said the attacks were possibly related to the May 2007 elections where losing candidates have not yet accepted their defeat.

He, however, did not discount the possibility that the forthcoming barangay and Sang-guniang Kabataan (SK) special elections tomorrow had something to do with the bombings.

Besides Sulu, special barangay and SK elections are slated in a number of villages in Basilan, Cota-bato, and Shariff Ka-bunsuan.
