BI summons Korean golfer

-

COTABATO CITY – The Korean golfer whom North Cotabato Vice Gov. Emmanuel Piñol whacked with a golf club last month for his unruly behavior during a game has been summoned by the Bureau of Immigration to answer a petition for deportation which Piñol has filed against him.

Piñol earlier admitted having struck with a putter Korean golfer Young Yoon Hyeon, but said he did so only after the foreigner tried to attack him first as he pacified him while he was allegedly bullying Filipino golfers at a golf course in Davao City three weeks ago.

Piñol sought the deportation of the golfer, who has filed counter-charges against him and a police officer for allegedly extorting money from him during his three-hour detention in a police station in Davao City.

“From the looks of it, the police officer, who is known in the community as a very professional and decorated officer, did not extort money from the Korean. It was his compatriots and sympathizers who solicited money from him to be spent for the services of a lawyer they would hire to help him,” Piñol said.

Piñol said Ben Lao, a staffer of the immigration bureau’s central office, has informed him that Young has been summoned to answer the deportation petition against him. – John Unson
