Rape suspect commits suicide in N. Cotabato

COTABATO CITY – A detainee who was accused of raping his 14-year-old daughter, committed suicide yesterdayinside a police detention facility in Magpet, North Cotabato.

Rodrigo Surigao, 40, cut his wrists before hanging himself using strips of blanket he tied on the window grill of his cell.

Inspector Luis Pederio, Magpet’s police chief, said Surigao was arrested last week after he was charged with raping his daughter who was not identified.

“Maybe he was bothered by his conscience,” Pederio said, referring to Surigao.

Pederio said they have turned over the cadaver of Surigao to his relatives for him to be given a decent burial. – John Unson
