Policeman killed in Laguna ambush

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – A 48-year-old policeman was killed when he was ambushed by unidentified gunmen near his house in Nagcarlan, Laguna Friday evening, police said. Senior Superintendent Felipe Rojas Jr. Laguna police director identified the victim as PO3 Lirio Tengco, resident of Barangay Bambang and presently assigned at Police Regional Office 5 in the Bicol area.

According to reports, Tengco was on his way home when three masked wearing men appeared from a dimly lit portion of the area and waylaid him around 7 p.m., just a few steps away from his house. Tengco died on the spot after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds from still undetermined caliber of guns used by the assailants.

Police recovered 13 spent shells and six slugs of unknown caliber from the crime scene.

Witnesses described the suspects as young wearing  bonnets and short pants when they approached and shot Tengco at close range at around 7 p.m.

According to information gathered by investigators the suspects immediately  ran-away towards different directions after they learned Tengco was already dead. – Ed Amoroso, Arnell Ozaeta
