COTABATO CITY – Suspected members of a rival family ambushed and killed a re-electionist barangay chairman and wounded a councilman in an ambush in Sultan Mastura, Shariff Kabunsuan yesterday.
The fatality, Akmad Abdullah, chairman of Barangay Sinditan in Sultan Mastura, and his companion, Monib Ali, were on their way home on board a motorcycle when hooded men blocked their path and opened fire with assault rifles.
Abdullah was killed on the spot, while Monib, who is seeking a second term as councilman of Barangay Sinditan, was rushed to a hospital here.
Police are convinced that Abdullah’s ambush-killing was related to the barangay elections, saying that he was at odds with other leaders in his village. – John Unson
