2 suspects in Taytay rape slay captured

-

Police arrested two of the three suspects in the rape-slay of an eight-year-old girl in Taytay, Rizal during follow-up operations Sunday in Quezon City.

Those arrested were identified as Jun Simbajon, 32, carpenter and resident of Barangay Banlat, Tandang Sora, Quezon City, and Fidel Villafuerte, 32, driver and resident of Block 21, Sitio Lupang Arienda, Barangay Sta. Ana in Taytay town.

Police are hunting down the third suspect, Benito Evardone, a neighbor of the victim, Mary Grace Alfonso.

Combined elements of the Taytay police and Quezon City Police District (QCPD) arrested Simbajon in his hideout in Tandang Sora at about 8:15 p.m. Sunday. Next to fall was Villafuerte.

During tactical interrogation Simbajon admitted the crime while Villafuerte remained silent about the incident.

The girl was reported missing by her parents to the local police after a failed effort to locate her in their neighborhood at Sitio Lupang Arienda.

She was last seen alive asking Simbajon, who was drinking liquor with the other suspects, to buy her an ice cream.

The girl was found by her uncle Joel Elgo Sunday around 8 a.m. in an abandoned deep well, a few meters away from her residence.

Her hands and feet were tied by a nylon cord and her body stuffed inside a sack, with one end tied on a hollow block.    – Non Alquitran
