Bishops, ulamas tap media for peace advocacy

-

DAVAO CITY – The Bishops-Ulama Conference (BUC) has turned to the media in the continuing effort to bring about peace in Mindanao.

“We believe that you are in the position of understanding what we mean by the theme ‘development and peace through dialogue,’” Davao Archbishop and BUC convenor Fernando Capalla said.

The partnership gathered mediamen from all over Mindanao in a two-day conference that ended at the Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao here today that tackled ecumenical and inter-religious dialogues.

Capalla described the conference as “unique, historic and unprecedented.”

“This is unique because the organizer, the BUC, is the only one of its kind in the world. Unprecedented because there has never been in the past a conference of this kind. And because of its uniqueness and unprecedentedness, it is historic and we are making history at this moment,” Capalla told the participating mediamen.

The dialogue with the media actually followed a quarterly forum the BUC earlier had with the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police in addressing peace issues in Mindanao.
