Tornado hits 6 villages in Davao Norte

BUTUAN CITY – More than P2 million worth of properties has been destroyed when a tornado hit six barangays in the Municipality of Sto. Tomas, Davao del Norte Wednesday morning, the Office of the Civil Defense said.

Hardly hit were Barangays Salvacion,, Ginamayan, Talomo, San Miguel, Esperanza and San Vicente, all in Sto. Tomas town.

No persons were reportedly hurt nor casualty reported, according to the local disaster coordinating councils of Sto. Tomas and the Davao del Norte Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (PDCC).

Sto. Tomas Max Estella said he is still awaiting final reports from officials of the affected six barangays while he was calling other areas that might have been affected by the tornado.

According to Estella, a state of calamity may be declared in the six barangays affected so that rehabilitation and calamity funds may be distributed.   – Ben Serrano
