Suspected gun-for-hire nabbed for seaman’s slay

Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recently arrested a suspected gun-for-hire allegedly behind the killing of a seaman, who was believed to have had an illicit affair with the wife of an Australian businessman.

Assistant Regional Director Oscar Embido, of the NBI’s Anti-Organized Crime Division, said the suspect, Loyd Ignacio, 25, was nabbed on the strength of an arrest warrant issued by Iloilo Judge Mateo Baldoza Jr. on March 20, 2003.

Ignacio and his brother Bongbong were allegedly hired by businessman Michael Stuart Faulkner to kill Freddie Niel Fabros, 29, a seafarer, for reportedly having an affair with his wife, Susan, Embido said.

Embido said Faulkner, who owned a beach resort in Iloilo, allegedly promised to pay the Ignacio brothers P50,000, but later failed to give the money.

Embido said they would ask the Department of Justice to file an extradition request with the Australian government so Faulkner could face the charges against him in the country.

Investigation showed that sometime in March 2003, Fabros got a call on his cellular phone informing him that Susan was supposedly waiting for him someplace.

Upon arriving there though, Fabros was shot four times with caliber .38 revolvers.
