Support for CARP extension sought

-

TACLOBAN CITY – Top officials of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) have sought the support of congressmen for a 10-year extension of the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP).

DAR officials, led by Undersecretary Narciso Nieto of the department’s field operation office and Regional Director Homer Tobias, said the extension they are seeking would be enough to “finish the business in distributing land to our still landless farmers.”

The extension of the program would cost P150 billion with 1.77 million hectares to be identified under the program.

Four of the 12 congressmen in Eastern Visayas, who attended the “Legislator’s Forum” held at the Kanhuraw Convention Center yesterday, expressed support to the extension being sought.
