Ex-Akbayan leader shot

-

COTABATO CITY – Police are still clueless on the attempt on the life of a former ranking leader of the Akbayan party-list group here the other day.

Senior Superintendent Wally Kasuyo, spokesman of the city police, said probers were unsure if the slay try on Mila Luminog, a municipal accounting staffer of Sultan Kudarat, Shariff Kabunsuan, could be election-related.

Luminog was one of the trusted staffers of former Sultan Kudarat mayor Datu Tucao Mastura, who ran for Shariff Kabunsuan governor in the May 14 polls.

The Commission on Elections has not yet proclaimed the winning gubernatorial candidate due to pending electoral controversies.

Luminog was driving her car along busy Sinsuat Avenue here when two motorcycle-riding men overtook her vehicle and opened fire, hitting her in the chest.

Kasuyo said Luminog was declared out of danger, but had to be transferred to a hospital outside of Cotabato City for security reasons.  – John Unson
