US embassy warns citizens of traveling or staying in central Mindanao

The US embassy highlighted that as of mid-August, there is a continuing terrorist threat in central Mindanao, including Cotabato City.

In a warden notice dated August 12, the US embassy said the threat could affect such public places as bus terminals and shopping mall.s

It warned that US citizens should exercise extreme caution in central Mindanao.  Likewise, US citizens living and working in central Mindanao were urged to reassess their personal security, keep a low profile, and avoid public-gathering places.

The US embassy said Americans should refer to the Travel Warning for the Philippines dated April 27, 2007 as well as the Consular Information Sheet for the Philippines dated June 19, 2006.
