Musharraf to attend Kabul anti-terror meet 'in principle'

ISLAMABAD (AFP) - Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf has agreed "in principle" to address the closing session of the joint Afghan-Pakistan "peace jirga" in Kabul, the foreign ministry said yesterday.

The president "agreed in principle" to address the anti-terror conference after Afghan President Hamid Karzai phoned him late Friday, the ministry said in a statement.

"President Karzai said that the president's personal participation would be a source of support and encouragement for the jirga process," the statement said.

"The president agreed in principle to address the closing session of the joint peace jirga."

The Pakistani leader was originally due to attend the opening of the conference on Thursday, but withdrew, citing important engagements in Islamabad.
