Tropical storm "Chedeng" exits, tropical depression "Dodong" appears
Tropical Storm "Chedeng" (international codename Pabuk) has left Southern Taiwan and is now heading towards Mainland China, according to the weather bureau Wednesday.
According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the tropical storm was located at 430 kms north-northwest of Basco, Batanes or
223 kms west of Southern Taiwan.
However, an active low pressure area (ALPA) east of Northern Luzon has intensified into a tropical depression and was named "Dodong."
The tropical depression was sighted at 290 kms east of Basco, Batanes with strength at maximum sustained winds of 55 kph.
PAGASA said "Dodong" will intensify further within the next 6-12 hours mmoving northwest at 19 kph. The tropical depression will also continue to enhance the southwest monsoon which will bring rains over Luzon particularly at the western section.
Signal No. 1 has been raised over the Batanes group of islands.
Residents in coastal areas under signal number one are alerted against big waves generated by this tropical cyclone. Likewise, those living in low lying areas and near mountain slopes are advised to take all the necessary measures against possible flashfloods and landslides.
PAGASA also advised the public and the disaster coordinating councils concerned to take appropriate actions.
