COTABATO CITY – Suspected extortionists blasted a grenade inside a compound here where the mobile tele-communications giant Globe Telecom is building a cell site, before dawn the other day.
Senior Superintendent Paniares Adap, city police chief, said that although the blast caused negligible damage to the transmission tower which Globe is putting up, it triggered panic among the residents.
Adap said the security guard at the project site, Tabrani Karnain, told investigators that he heard a speeding motorcycle passing by seconds before the explosion rocked the compound.
Adap said responding experts from the Army’s 6th Ordnance and Explosives Battalion recovered fragments of a Belgian-made grenade in the scene. – John Unson
