Security plan for ASEAN conference set

After President Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) yesterday which was generally peaceful, the Philippine National Police (PNP) will focus its atten-tion now to the security plan for the coming Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ministerial Meeting scheduled from July 29 to Aug. 2.

PNP chief Director General Oscar Calderon said sufficient number of uniformed policemen will be deployed in the vicinity of the Philippine International Con-vention Center (PICC) and Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), where most of the meetings will be held.

Calderon said several task forces were created to ensure a hassle-free ASEAN Ministerial Meeting (AMM).

The police have been conducting a series of dry runs since last week to help familiarize all personnel involved with the security procedures particularly during the movement of delegates to and from the areas of engagement and the hotels were the delegates will be staying.
