Arroyo pays tribute to slain Marines, says their sacrifice won't be in vain
President Gloria Arroyo on Monday paid tribute to the 14 Philippine Marines who were slain and beheaded by suspected militants last July 10 in Tipo-Tipo, Basilan.
Pres. Arroyo said during her State of the Nation Address (SONA) that investments will bring peace to Mindanao, as well as stop terrorism and human rights abuses.
Thus, she said, the sacrifice of the Marines-- who she called the "Fearless 14"-- will not be wasted in the course for "a peaceful, progressive Philippines."
"We will have peace with justice throughout our land," she declared.
The President also said that the Philippines model for reconciliation is showing great promise via the interfaith dialogues.
She added that by showing both sides in Mindanao that there is more at stake in staying together than being apart, it will help isolate the terorists.
