Report: Villar retains Senate presidency seat

Senator Manuel Villar retained the presidency seat at the Senate on Monday, beating out Senator Aquilino Pimentel, Jr. by a vote of 15-7.

According to media reports,the Senate for the 14th Congress had an almost complete quorum except for Senator Antonio Trillanes IV, who is still under military detention.

Because of Trillanes' absence, Pimentel lost one vote.

Villar gained the votes of Edgardo Angara, Joker Arroyo, Alan Peter Cayetano, Pia Cayetano, Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Juan Ponce-Enrile, Jinggoy Estrada, Richard Gordon, Gregorio "Gringo" Honasan, Lito Lapid, Francis Pangilinan, Aquilino Pimentel Jr., Ramon Revilla Jr., and Juan Miguel Zubiri.

Villar also voted for himself.

Pimentel got the votes of: Benigno "Nonoy" Aquino III, Rodolfo Biazon, Francis Escudero, Panfilo Lacson, Loren Legarda, Ana "Jamby" Consuelo Madrigal, and Manuel Roxas II.
