5.5 quake hits Southern Leyte
A strong earthquake hit Southern Leyte Thursday night, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.
The Phivolcs said the tectonic quake, which hit 43 kilometers northeast of Maasin, Southern Leyte, registered a magnitude of 5.5 and originated from the Leyte segment of the Philippine Fault Zone.
The earthquake was felt at intensity VI in Hinunangan and intensity V in Saint Bernard, both in Southern Leyte. It was also felt at intensitry IV in Sogod, Southern Leyte and intensity II in Cebu City.
Phivolcs said they expected damage and aftershocks in the wake of the quake.
