Report: High tribunal dismisses with finality rebellion case vs Batasan 6

-

The Supreme Court dismissed with finality Tuesday the government's appeal to reverse a decision junking the rebellion case filed against a number of partylist militant solons, including Anakpawis Rep. Crispin Beltran.

According to media reports, the second division of the high court said they had already taken the basic issues in the appeal filed by the Office of Solicitor General into consideration.

Because of this, Beltran's legal counsel said they will ask the court to immediately release their client

The government had earlier filed a rebellion case against the six left-leaning lawmakers before the Makati City regional trial court branch 150 for allegedly conspiring to oust President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in February 2006 and managed to detain Beltran.

The other solons, including Bayan Muna’ Satur Ocampo, Teodoro Casiño, and Joel Virador; Gabriela’s Liza Maza; and Raul Mariano of Anakpawis managed to stave off arrest by retreating to the Batasan Pambansa, which earned them their moniker, 'Batasan 6'.

However, the SC junked the charges against the six after it found 'no probable cause' against them last June 1.
