Japan minister reportedly hangs himself

TOKYO (AP) - Japan's agricultural minister attempted suicide amid a financial scandal, media reports said Monday.
Toshikatsu Matsuoka, 62, tried to hang himself inside his apartment, public broadcaster NHK reported, citing unidentified metropolitan police sources.
The report could not be immediately confirmed.
Comment from Japanese police was not immediately available.
Matsuoka has faced criticism over a scandal involving huge, unexplained expenses for a rent-free office.
