ROMBLON – Romblomanons, particularly farmers and rural folks from various islands here staged a protest rally to condemn the numerous irregularities during the election.

The youths, students and civic leaders demanded the Commissions on Elections (Comelec) to declare a  failure of elections in the province.

Supporters of incumbent Rep. Eduardo Firmalo, of the lone district of Romblon, who is seeking a second congressional term under Kampi party, expressed frustrations over numerous reports of massive cheating, vote buying and fraud during the counting of votes in various precincts.

Romblomanons have also spoken their sentiment over the outcome of the election and called on Firmalo’s camp to file a petition through legal means.

The rallyists also expressed their grievances over the results of the election and narrated their experiences on how the election process was manipulated.

They cited attempts to distribute the questionable 6,000 official ballots intended to be delivered from the three towns of San Jose, Calatrava and San Agustin during the election where Firmalo got a low turn out of votes.

The questionable official ballots are now in the custody of San Agustin’s election officer, Mary Ann San Pedro, and being guarded by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

The Board of Canvassers has proclaimed former governor Eleandro Jesus Madrona as the winner in the province’s Congressional race.
