The Philippine National Police-Task Force Usig (PNP-Task Force Usig) filed murder charges on Friday against two Army officers tagged in the abduction and killing of a Christian pastor in Albay last year.
Charged before the Albay prosecutors’ office under were Army Major Ernest Marc Rosal, former commanding officer of the Military Intelligence Group (MIG) in the Bicol region, and Arnaldo Manjares, commanding officer of the Civil-Military Operations Unit (CMUO) in the area.
Also named respondents in the murder of Rev. Isaias Sta. Rosa, whose body was found in a creek in Malabago, Daraga, were 10 persons who were mostly members of the Army’s 9th Infantry Division.
Task Force Usig chief Director Geary Barias, head of the PNP Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM), said the filing of murder charges against the two was a result of a thorough police investigation over Sta. Rosa’s abduction.
“We are confident that we have all the goods against the suspects to ensure a successful prosecution,” Barias said in a press statement.
Sta. Rosa, suspected by military authorities in the Bicol region as a communist supporter, was abducted by more or less 10 armed men from his house in Malabago, Daraga in August last year. His badly beaten body was later found in a nearby creek, alongside the body of Cpl. Lordger Pastrana, of the Army’s 9th Infantry Division based in Albay.
