‘Tikman Ang Langit’: A taste of the Eraserheads
In a letter to assistant prosecutor Portia Cabalum last May 2, the woman said she was withdrawing the case against Fr. Martin Alarcon “due to my present physical condition.”
“I cannot attend the hearing of the complaint, thus I am not interested anymore in prosecuting (it). For this reason, I may not be able to sustain and establish the guilt of the respondent beyond reasonable doubt,” she said.
Cabalum got the woman’s letter before she could issue her resolution on the preliminary investigation.
The woman accused Alarcon of raping her on two occasions – Feb. 1 and 6 this year – after she tried to end their alleged relationship.
Alarcon expressed relief over the dropping of the rape complaint against him. “I will consider this a part of my life and a lesson not only for me but also for all of us,” he said in a statement.
Alarcon also said he will pray for some members of the media who had been “unfair and irresponsible” in dealing with the controversy.
“That is why I suffered greatly, together with my family, because of the bias. It was like I was judged before the truth could be known,” he said.
The woman’s accusations prompted the Archdiocese of Jaro to launch an investigation. The Archdiocesan Tribunal has yet to come out with its findings.
