2 killed, 1 wounded in Mindoro ambush

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Two people were killed and another one was wounded when they were waylaid by at least two armed men in Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro yesterday morning, police said.
Senior Superintendent Agremero Cruz Jr., Oriental Mindoro police director, identified the fatalities as Dena Malubay Saraste, 53, a fish vendor; and Fermin Labi, 54, a jeepney driver. Wounded was a certain Belinda Matri-Cepris, 54.
Police said the victims were cruising the highway on board a passenger jeepney driven by Labi when they were ambushed a few meters away from the Calapan City public market at around 7:30 a.m.
Cruz said probers were looking into the love angle as a possible motive behind the incident.
Police found caliber .45 slugs and an empty shell at the crime scene. – Arnell Ozaeta
