House of Northern Samar mayoral bet fired at

A nephew of a Northern Samar mayoral bet was wounded when unidentified men fired at the candidate’s house Tuesday night, while the husband of a mayoral aspirant in Ilocos Sur was hurt in a gun attack yesterday, police said. 

Chief Superintendent Eliseo de la Paz, Eastern Visayas police director, said the house of Dr. Tim Capoquian, who is seeking the mayorship of Gamay town under the banner of the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi), was fired at around 11 p.m. Tuesday.

De la Paz said the Northern Samar police was still investigating the incident, which left Capoquian’s nephew Roberto wounded in the leg.

Police said Capoquian was not around when the incident occurred. The doctor’s residence doubled as his campaign headquarters.

Capoquian is challenging re-electionist Mayor Odol Capoquian, who is running under the coalition ticket of Gov. Raul Daza.

In Ilocos Sur, Percival Bitonio, husband of San Juan town mayoral bet Amy Bitonio and a district engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways, was wounded when a lone gunman shot him while he was taking his lunch inside his office yesterday.

Bitonio was reported to be in critical condition in a La Union hospital.

Meanwhile, in Batangas, a supporter of Lemery town mayoralty candidate Raul Bendana was gunned down inside his house Wednesday morning.

Chief Inspector Charlie Soriano, Lemery police chief, said the victim, Efren Reyes, 51, was watching television when the gunman armed with a caliber .45 pistol barged inside his house in Barangay Sinisian West and shot him several times.
