Security tightened in Napocor towers

ILIGAN CITY – The Philippine National Police (PNP) and the Philippine Army have tightened security at the transmission towers of National Power Corp. (NPC) following a series of bombings last week.

Senior Superintendent Virgilio Ranes said that after a security meeting with officers of the Philippine Army’s 103rd Brigade, Mayor Lawrence Cruz said that additional security measures have been taken to secure the transmission towers within the jurisdicition of this city.

However, no details of the security measures were revealed.

Last week, at least three transmission towers were bombed by criminal groups in Barangay Pugaan here near the boundary of Misamis Oriental, and in Balo-i, Lanao del Norte, and another one in Barangay Sugod, Marawi City, which caused power interruption in some parts of Northern Mindanao.

Power was restored on Thursday, according to a NPC spokesman in Lanao.

Meanwhile, in a meeting the other day with the local monitoring team of the Government of the Republic of the Philippines-Moro Islamic Liberation Front (GRP-MILF), a group of MILF members in Marawi and Lanao del Sur denounced some local enforcement authorities for attributing the bombings to a lost command of the MILF.
