CDO gets second Congress seat

- Sheila Crisostomo -
The Commission on Election (Comelec) issued yesterday a resolution apportioning the lone legislative district of Cagayan de Oro City.

This means that on May 14, Cagayan de Oro’s registered voters will have to vote for two congressmen and 16 councilors as the city will now have two legislative districts.

In Resolution 7837, the Comelec amended Resolution 7801 promulgated on Jan. 11, 1997 which provided a single legislative district for the city.

The new ruling is in line with Republic Act 9371 which provided for the apportionment of the lone district of Cagayan de Oro City.

The resolution was signed by Comelec Chairman Benjamin Abalos Sr. and Commissioners Rene Sarmiento, Romeo Brawner, Resurrecion Borra, Nicodemo Ferrer, and Florentino Tuazon Jr.

Under the ruling, Barangays Bonbon, Bayabay, Kauswagan, Carmen, Patag, Bulua, Iponan, Baikingon, San Simon, Pagatpat, Canitoan, Balulang, Lumbia, Pagalungan, Tagpangi, Taglimao, Tuburan, Pigsagan, Tumpagon, Bayanga, Mambuaya, Dansulihora, Tignapoloan, and Bisigan comprise the first district.

On the other hand, Barangays Macabalan, Puntod, Consolacion, Camama-an, Nazareth, Macasandig, Indahag, Lapasan, Gusa, Cugman, FS Catanico, Tablon, Agusan, Puerto, Bugo and Balubal and all villages from Barangays 1 to 40 are under the second district.
