Charges filed vs Albay flesh ring

Operatives of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) recently rescued seven minors from a nightclub where they were reportedly forced into prostitution last month in a town in Albay province.

A case of violation of Republic Act 9208, otherwise known as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2003, was filed before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against the still unidentified members of a human trafficking syndicate.

It appeared that the victims, all from Taguig and Parañaque, were lured into working in Laguna as group dancers in a club for P9,000 a month. However, they were brought to Daraga, Albay instead and made to work as guest relations officers (GROs) and were forced into prostitution.

Four days later, one of the victims managed to escape from the club and was able to board a passenger bus bound for Manila.

When she arrived home, she reported the incident to the parents of the other victims, who in turn sought the assistance of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). The agents immediately coordinated with the Daraga police and were able to rescue the victims and returned them to their own families.
