The European Commission will provide a grant of 12 million Euros (P750 million) to fund a major health support project in Mindanao and improve health services in conflict-affected areas in the south.
The EC and the Philippine government launched yesterday the project dubbed Mindanao Health Sector Support Program at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
The 12 million Euros for this project is part of the 25 million Euros pledge made by President Manuel Barroso when President Arroyo visited Brussels last year. Another grant of 12 million Euros is likewise being prepared as a contribution to the Mindanao Trust Fund. A grant of one million Euros was also approved last year under the EC’s Rapid Reaction Mechanism in Mindanao. – Pia Lee-Brago
