Bulusan spews ash

LEGAZPI CITY — Mt. Bulusan in Sorsogon spewed ash anew Wednesday night, but volcanologists said there was no imminent threat of a major explosion.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said seismic sensors recorded the ash-driven explosion for about 10 minutes although there was no visual observation due to thick clouds covering the volcano’s summit.

Ash deposits were observed in Barangays Cogon, San Benon, Gulang-gulang, Tinampo and Monbon, all in Irosin town.

Thirty high-frequency, three low-frequency and one explosion-type quakes were recorded during the past 24-hour observation period. — Celso Amo and Helen Flores
