BFAR hopes to break longest painting record

- Charlie Lagasca -
TUGUEGARAO CITY — First, there were the attempts for the world’s longest tupig, the longest fish grill, and the biggest flag, the latter ending up a "tattered dream."

Now, a national government agency intends to attempt to break another world record, this time for the longest painting, during the celebration of the 43rd Fish Conservation Week on Oct. 16-20.

Jovita Ayson, regional director of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), said her office will join hands with other regional offices in attempting to make a painting longer than the record holder — Iran’s five-kilometer painting, a feat not yet certified though by the Guinness Book of World Records.

Ayson said some 200 students from various secondary and tertiary schools like the University of St. Louis-Tuguegarao and the Cagayan National High School, as well as members of the Association of Cagayano Artists of the Philippines are joining an on-the-spot painting contest aiming to set a new world record and also foster awareness of the need to conserve and protect the country’s fisheries and aquatic resources.

Ayson said the winning entries from all the 16 BFAR regional offices will be made into a huge painting with a length of more than eight kilometers at the BFAR central office in Metro Manila. — With Myds Supnad
