NCIP Caraga head dies in accident

-
BUTUAN CITY — The 63-year-old Caraga director of the National Commission on Indigenous People (NCIP) died Wednesday night after he accidentally fell into a culvert being constructed near a bridge along the national highway here.

Chief Superintendent Antonio Dator Nanas, Caraga police director, said NCIP regional director Domingo Pareja, who was set to retire soon, had stepped on the cover of the culvert thinking it was concrete.

The private contractor reportedly failed to install danger signs at the site.

Pareja sustained fractures in the ribs, arms and skull, causing his death. — Ben Serrano
