Dolphin succumbs to injuries

-
ZAMBOANGA CITY — A nine-foot Rissos dolphin that beached in an and islet east of this city died Sunday night due to injuries.

City Agriculture director Diodado Palacat said the mammal was caught by Samal fishermen near Bilay-bilay island off the coastal village of Arena Blanco at around 4 p.m.

Palacat said the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) are now conducting post-mortem examination to determine the cause of the dolphin’s death before it is buried.

He also appealed to the villagers to report immediately any dolphin or whale that will be sighted in the area. — Roel Pareño
