SC orders military to produce UP studes

The Supreme Court ordered four military officials yesterday to present before the Court of Appeals two female students of the University of the Philippines and a male companion, who were allegedly abducted last June 26 and still being held in detention by the military.

In a two-page resolution, the tribunal’s first division directed its order at Lt. Gen. Romeo Tolentino, chief of the Armed Forces Northern Luzon Command; Maj. Gen. Jovito Palparan, commander of the Army’s 7th Infantry Division; Lt. Col. Rogelio Boaca, a certain Lt. Samson and Arnel Enriquez.

The Supreme Court acted on the habeas corpus petition filed by the parents of UP students Sherlyn Cadapan and Karen Empeno and their companion Manuel Merino who were allegedly seized by military men in Hagonoy, Bulacan last June 26.

The military officials were directed to present the three before the appellate court at 10 a.m. on June 24. — Jose Rodel Clapano
