Ex-mayor gets 2 years in jail for poll offense

AGOO, La Union — For disrupting the canvassing of votes during the 2004 elections here, a former mayor was meted a maximum of two years in jail.

Regional Trial Court Judge Clifton Ganay also barred lawyer Pablo Olarte, who served as Agoo mayor from 1987 to 1998, from holding public office.

Olarte, who ran as mayoral candidate of the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino, delayed the canvassing for 30 minutes when he created a scene at the canvassing room. — Jun Elias
