Gov: Declare Reyes enemy of Bulakeños
June 20, 2006 | 12:00am
MALOLOS CITY Bulacan Gov. Josie de la Cruz called on the provinces city and municipal councils to declare Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Angelo Reyes "enemy of Bulacan and the Filipino people" for what she claimed was his disregard for the environment and historical significance of the Biak-na-Bato National Park.
"The fight is not just over the issue of environmental concerns but on the historical concerns," she told Capitol employees during the flag-raising ceremony here yesterday.
De la Cruz scored the Department of Environment and Natural Resources over its inaction on the continued marble quarrying of the Rosemoor Mining and Development Corp. in Biak-na-Bato, which the late President Manuel L. Quezon declared a national park in the 1930s.
She said Rosemoor did not conform with legal requirements in securing its mineral production sharing agreement which former DENR Secretary Heherson Alvarez granted in 2002.
De la Cruz said she will ask the provincial board to pass a resolution requesting the Commission on Appointments not to confirm Reyes. With Ric Sapnu
