San Fernando to set new record for longest line of longganiza

- Ric Sapnu -
SAN FERNANDO — The city government is attempting to set a new city and world record for the longest line of longganiza (native pork sausage).

City Mayor Oscar Rodriguez said that Pampanga’s top meat processing companies have pledged to donate tons of longganiza in an effort to set a new record for the city.

The Pampanga Meat Processors (Pampro) vowed to support the attempt which aims to promote the province’s meat processing industry. The other companies that will be churning out longganiza for the attempt at a new world record include Pampanga’s Best, Mekeni Meat Products, Roel’s Food Corp., Mother Earth, Nan Meat, Ariel’s, and Tita’s Special.

On May 29, the people of San Fernando will start the line of longganiza at Monumento Fernandino and will go all the way up to Capitol Boulevard.

The record for the longest line of sausages listed in the Guinness Book of World Records was made on Oct. 27, 2000 in Sheffield, South York, United Kingdom. The line of sausages was 59.14 kilometers long.

City Councilor Nelson Lingat, fiesta committee chairman, explained that though the city’s attempt will be a far cry from the existing world record for the longest line of sausages, it might still might make a new world record since the product is different.

"With or without the Guinness officials, the city will still push through with the activity to add excitement to the fiesta," Lingat said.
