LWUA completes P104-M projects in Bicol

-
The Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) has announced the completion of its modernization and expansion projects in two towns and two cities in Sorsogon and Albay under the Small Towns Water Supply Sector Program (STWSSP) of the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

The P104-million modernization and expansion projects, which LWUA officials led by board chairman Francisco Dumpit and administrator Lorenzo Jamora recently inaugurated, included the installation of eight kilometers of pipelines and construction of a pumping facility in Donsol, Sorsogon, home of the world-renowned butanding or whale shark.

Dumpit lauded the efforts of the water districts of Sorsogon City, Pilar, Donsol and Tabaco City in helping promote tourism in their respective concession areas by providing safe and potable water to the residents and tourists, both local and foreign.

Jamora said the new Donsol pumping station alone, constructed with a P7-million counterpart fund from the Provincial Development Assistance Fund of Sorsogon first district Rep. Francis Escudero, now serves four more barangays, all hosting a number of tourist facilities and establishments.

Jamora said the modernization and expansion projects of LWUA and the four water districts are all in pursuit of President Arroyo’s water supply program for all barangays, under her administration’s 10-point agenda.

He called on barangay officials to help properly maintain and protect their water supply system, and monitor meter tampering and illegal connections.

Aside from Dumpit and Jamora, local officials led by Mayors Sally Lee and Alex Burce of Sorsogon City and Tabaco City, respectively, and Donsol councilor Jessie Abetria graced the inauguration of the completed projects.
