Army officer shot dead

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The commanding officer of the Army’s 10th Artillery Battalion was gunned down inside Camp Evangelista here Saturday night.

Lt. Col. Francisco Simbajon, spokesman of the Army’s 4th Infantry Division, said the camp’s personnel heard gunshots at about 7:15 p.m. and when they checked their source they found Lt. Col. Eduardo Peralta lifeless at the back of his headquarters.

Peralta died from three gunshot wounds in the chest from a caliber .45 pistol.

Brig. Gen. Cardozo Luna, the 4th ID’s commanding general, has ordered a thorough investigation.

Authorities suspect that Peralta’s assailant could be an insider since Camp Evangelista maintains tight security. — Lino de la Cruz, Richel Umel
