Fake NBI agent falls

A fake agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) fell in an entrapment operation last Tuesday after he offered to supposedly arrest the assailants of a Bulacan resident in exchange for P5,000.

NBI officer-in-charge Nestor Mantaring said the impostor, Conrado Feliciano Cruz, a resident of Calumpit, Bulacan, was caught in the act of receiving an initial P500 from a poseur agent.

Hector Geologo, chief of the NBI-Bulacan district office, said Cruz approached the complainant, Nestor Vicho, last week and offered his services to arrest the killers of Vicho’s father-in-law for a fee of P5,000.

To win Vicho’s trust, Cruz showed him his supposed NBI identification card and documents showing his alleged links with the bureau.

Despite Cruz’s efforts, Vicho still doubted his claims, prompting Vicho to check his background with the NBI.

NBI operatives set up the entrapment at Vicho’s house in San Rafael, Bulacan where Cruz met with a poseur agent who claimed to be Vicho’s friend.

Charges of violation of Article 315 of the Revised Penal Code and estafa-misrepresentation have been filed against Cruz with the Bulacan prosecutor’s office. — Evelyn Macairan
